Birds in the Trees

When I visited my last bride's florist, my eyes naturally scanned the shelves full of containers they used to create arrangements. Lots of glass and ceramic in solid colors mostly, but among them was a single large trumpet-shaped bowl with birds and berries painted on it. It was beautiful, but I frugally told myself "I'm not here to buy bowls. Pass, Andrea...just walk away..." So I did.

When I went back the following week to pick up some models for sugar flowers, the bowl was still there. Like a siren song, it called to me from the high shelf, and I asked them to get it down. Close-up it was even more beautiful, so I bought it, and designed a cake around it. A sneak peek of the hand-painted birds and marzipan fruit on the cake are at left.

This is one of three cakes I'm prepping for a shoot this Sunday. The shoot is the final phase of the site launch I've got planned for mid-May, and I can't wait to get the cakes shot and live.

The other two cakes are a re-imagined version of my sage-colored seaside cake (some of you may have seen it many posts ago) and a new cake modeled after a Martha Stewart cake using a charming color scheme and table set up designed by Becky Maedge of SpotWorksDesign in San Francisco.

You'll see them all in full soon, but I wanted to send you shots of this work in progress to keep you going. :)

Enjoy, and I'll post more when I have it! Here's a last shot of the bottom tier of the cake -- can't wait to show you the whole thing!

Big hugs,
Andrea
